Pollution from vehicles is a serious concern for the environment and human health. Vehicle emission regulations worldwide have limits pollutants such as hydrocarbons, CO, NOx. The measurements are typically conducted at engine dynamometers (heavy-duty engines) sampling tailpipe or chassis (light-duty vehicles) dilution tunnel. latest focused on actual emissions of road. Greenhouse gases (GHG) (such CO2, CH4, N2O), NH3 also been subject some regulations. One instrument that can measure many gaseous compounds simultaneously Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer. In this review studies assessed FTIRs since 1980s summarized. Studies with calibration vehicle exhaust gas in comparison well-established techniques were included. main conclusion FTIRs, even when used not tunnel, provide comparable results other NOx, while higher deviations noticed. introduction regulation needs careful description technical requirements, especially interference tests. Although limited prototype portable on-road measurement promising, their performance wide range environmental conditions (temperature, pressure, vibrations) further studies.
